Laura Catherine Brown’s first novel, Quickening, was chosen by Barnes & Noble and featured in their Discover Great New Writers series. She is currently seeking a publisher for her second novel as she works on her third.

In addition to being a writer of fiction, Laura has taught creative writing as an adjunct professor at Manhattanville College for over two years. She is also a dedicated yoga practitioner and instructor, having studied a variety of styles and traditions of Hatha Yoga for over twenty years. Her working career began with the award of a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of Visual Arts in 1990. Shortly thereafter she started work as a graphic designer, in a field that still excites her.

Laura sees a common thread among the three pursuits that she’s most passionate about: writing, yoga and graphic design all require practice, dedication and constant, ongoing surrender.

Finally, she expresses her eternal gratitude for the writing residencies that have enabled her to do her best work, among them the Djerassi Program, The Hambidge Center, Millay Colony, Ragdale Foundation, Ucross Foundation, Vermont Studio Center and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts.
